Behind every event, every grant, and every community education session is a volunteer committee making it happen. The Foundation's committees are how dedicated community members translate their expertise into real impact — funding decisions, health education, donor stewardship, and financial oversight.
Committee service is one of the most meaningful ways to get involved. All positions are volunteer roles — no compensation provided.

How Committees Work
The Foundation's standing committees report to the Executive Committee through their respective chairs. Each committee serves a distinct function, and together they form the operational backbone of the Foundation's work.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee acts for the Board as authorized by the Board-approved Bylaws. It evaluates all fundraising proposals from hospital administration, studies recommendations from standing and special committees, and submits proposals for Board action.
Composed of: Foundation officers, standing committee chairs, the LVMC CEO, and others designated by the Board.
Community Education & Public Relations
This committee meets at noon on the first Tuesday of each month. Its work keeps the Foundation visible and connected to the broader Lompoc Valley community.
Committee responsibilities include:
- Sponsoring health-related lectures each spring and fall
- Publishing news articles about Foundation events and initiatives
- Coordinating the Foundation's Speaker's Bureau — connecting LVMC physicians, nurses, and specialty staff with community groups, service organizations, and nonprofits seeking health education presentations

Development & Finance Committee
The planning and fundraising arm of the Foundation. This committee is responsible for acquiring funds for all Foundation-supported projects and oversees four active subcommittees:

Special Events
- Plans and executes all Foundation fundraising events, generating approximately $120,000 annually. Signature events include the Flower Valley Golf Classic and the Colorthon.

Annual Giving
- Solicits ongoing yearly gifts from individuals and organizations throughout the Lompoc Valley — building a base of sustained philanthropic support.

Deferred Giving
- Provides presentations to attorneys, accountants, and financial advisors to promote estate planning and legacy giving — helping donors leave a lasting impact on local healthcare.

Projects
- Provides leadership and planning for specific initiatives undertaken by the Foundation, including capital campaigns and named funds.
Investment Committee
Responsible for managing the Foundation's financial assets using prudent investment strategies appropriate for foundations and endowments. The committee meets twice a year (typically February and October) or as called by the Chair.
Membership is limited to Foundation trustees and members. A minimum of four members is required, and each should have a background in financial management or investing.
Membership & Nominating Committee
Recruits new members to the Foundation and manages nominations to the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee. This committee works to develop a broad-based membership representing business, professions, industry, agriculture, civic, social, and governmental organizations throughout the hospital service area.
The committee also supports Special Events and Community Education with logistics, outreach, and volunteer coordination.
